Good opportunity to participate in this parade especially for those who always question about China's transparency in defense and related affairs.

Wy the hell would Japan want to take part in a parade celerating the day it was defeated in WW2?

"Invitations will go out to countries that fought in the conflict as well as some with no direct connection, Geng said, without mentioning individual nations by name."

These would probably be countries that are politically aligned with China and/or stand to benefit economically, maybe even being rewarded for attending.

Power grabbers' games irrelevant to average guy pursuing peace & prosperity.

70 years after a war... ?

It looks like the Chinese imperial army is desperate to come up with a pretext for military action against Japanese interests or something. Besides Russia (and even that's a push) I can't imagine any governments would be stupid enough to send their armies along to participate in this evil event.

If Japan were to stage an peace-oriented event around the same time, I suspect they would have greater success in getting foreign participants, especially from their friends in south east asia.

This is team C's invitation to come celebrate team A's victory over team J.

Although, I don't know how much of a role team C played in the victory...

Do they honestly think that the rest of the world are stupid enough to believe this tripe?

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Exactly what i was pondering too Cruisin Japan. Team C had absolutely nothing to do with . . . lets say, Midway. I dnt care if they have their parade. Just give it another name.

Do they honestly think that the rest of the world are stupid enough to believe this tripe?

The two nations on the Korean peninsula?

Basically ROC was doing all the fighting not CPC.

How about marching for the end of the war, not winning it. There are no winners in war

"China’s insular military will invite foreign armed forces to take part in a lavish military parade in Beijing this fall marking the 70th anniversary of victory over Japan in World War II." - article

The Chinese have no sense of proportion. America does not celebrate victory, nor Britain or France. The constant refrain from whatever controls the Chinese experience is a mindless taunting of the Japanese.

The Japanese cannot bow low enough or is it just an easy prejudice to massage the hatred of the ordinary Chinese to focus on something other than China? After Seventy Years? China looks unchanged by her wealth; propaganda is their second language and what is propaganda without and evil villain?

How primitive the Chinese seem.

Why not? Germany has no objection to participating in D-Day commemorations?

The parade plans have drawn speculation that Beijing wants to emphasize what it sees as a lack of Japanese contrition for its wartime aggression, and its warnings that Tokyo continues to threaten the region — in part to distract from Beijing’s own growing assertion of territorial claims in the region.

And this is why I keep saying that Japan has to make an unequivocal apology. Due to Hashimoto, Abe, Ishihara etc having the freedom to undermine government apologies in their revisionist statements - China gets to play this card time and again. If Japan does the sensible thing then this card (we were the victims, Japan isn't really sorry) will be removed from the game

@Glen. Good input, germans do in fact participate.

Japanese have way to much pride to bow-down to Chinese tho . . . Its engrained into their DNA, passed down from generation to generation.

Why not? Germany has no objection to participating in D-Day commemorations?

As Merkel alluded to recently, it takes two to tango.

Its engrained into their DNA, passed down from generation to generation.

It is in the DNA of the Chinese to be whiny losers?

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

As Merkel alluded to recently, it takes two to tango.

Yes, it does. Japan makes an uneuivocal, irrevocable apology, then the onus will be on China to bury the hatchet.

It seems that since some people's history lessons included no mention of the CPC fighting the Japanese, that it must have been the Kuomingtang going it alone. But then suddenly the CPC rose out of nowhere to defeat the militarily experienced and well armed Kuomingtang? Just think about that for a second. Is it not far more likely your history classes committed an error of omission as part of Cold War policy, and that continues into today because nobody likes China? The first casualty of war is always the truth! But is the truth so rotten we can't handle it?

Next, the interpretation of the event is interesting. We in the west don't celebrate victory? We celebrate peace? And the Chinese are obviously celebrating victory but not celebrating peace? Why is that exactly? Because the article said so? Because that is easier to believe because you don't like China so much?

Victory Day was celebrated in America until 1975. In fact, Rhode Island still celebrates it. And do you know why? Because Rhode Island lost a disproportionate number of sailors during the war. If America had been invaded and occupied like China was, and suffered to the degree that China did, sentiments in America would be quite different today. Just as if Shiro Ishii had experimented on, mutilated, tortured and killed Americans, he would not have been welcomed to America for his medical knowledge.

Its really easy to sit in comfort on the outside looking in and suggest people "get over it" and "forgive and forget". And maybe people should. But no one's case for moving on is going to be bolstered by hypocrisy and ignorance. Then it only looks like self-righeousness.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

And the Chinese are obviously celebrating victory but not celebrating peace?

Well, if you'd lost about 15 million people fighting the Japanese then you'd certainly be celebrating victory. Much like the French celebrate the liberation of Paris on August 25th.

But no one's case for moving on is going to be bolstered by hypocrisy and ignorance.

Yet that's what Abe and Hashimoto are expounding.

Defense Ministry spokesman Geng Yansheng told reporters that foreign government and military leaders would be invited as observers. Members of their armed forces would be welcome to march in the parade, Geng said.

Hahaha, would they let Japan's armed forces to march in the parade?!

The Chinese Communist forces, mostly centered around the New Fourth Amy and the Eighth Route Army, put up a formidable fight against the Japanese invaders, although the Communist forces eventually began to fight guerrilla campaigns, with the Imperial Japanese Army stuck in the large cities and transportation junctions and along the coast.

That the Communist forces were formidable is indicated by three things. One is the Japanese 三光政策 -- the three "all's" policy of burn all, kill all, loot all -- designed to but ultimately failing to eradicate the Communist forces but which left behind mass atrocities. The second is the widespread perception by the peasantry in Northern China that it was the communist fighting the Japanese. Third is the relative ease with which communist forces won the civil war against the nationalists.

The Nationalist forces did fight the majority of the conflict against the Imperial Japanese Army and by trading space for time brought the IJA to near exhaustion. It was at this stage in 1944 that the IJA launched the 一号作戦 Ichigo Offensive designed to knock the KMT out of the war so that Japan could focus on the American offensive from the Pacific. The Japanese offensive eventually failed but did inflict substantial damage on KMT forces. Mao Zedong would later facetiously but accurately thank Japan for helping the communist win the civil war.

So, China, even as represented by the PRC, is indeed a victor over Japan. And it is also proper from the Chinese point of view to call this a victory in the "War Against Japanese Aggression" since it was the Japanese who committed the aggression and killing tens of millions of Chinese in the process.

I say Japan show up.show China that you are not at war with each other anymore sometime it takes things happen in past to the future .

I think only North Korea, South Korea and Russia Government will accept Chinese Military invitation for taking parade in Beijing. Also African Governments will send their armed forces to participate in parade but it’s depending how much Communist Government has promising to give gift and costs for their contribution on Communist Chinese’s propaganda show.

China did jack all in WWII. The US ended the war. If it wasn't for the US China would be another prefecture. Don't forget that Chugoku.

imagine all the fat CCP heads feasting over the oily grilled piglings and Dim sum together with their likeminded comrades, while the rest of the world facepalms about them.

In perspective, the war that started by shots fired over the Marco Polo Bridge near Beijing in 1937 spread all the way to Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands by 1942. After all the carnage in the hopes to free the Chinese people from strife, the Chinese only managed to lose a great visionary, Chiang Kai Shek and gain Mao, a despot for more widespread death and destruction.

I sincerely hope the 21st century is the Chinese people's century because they have suffered too long at the hands of cruel men, both local and foreign.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Not many will join. China isn't exactly a model for a decent country.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

China did jack all in WWII.

China tied town a substantial number of IJA troops, over a million in all. Imagine if those troops had been available for deployment on any one of the Pacific islands, if China had capitulated and sued for peace. Moreover China spent 1937-45 at war with Japan. 14 years if you include the Manchurian incident of 1931. (I believe Russia performed a similar function in tying down a sizeable number of German troops that were then unavailable to repel the allies at Normandy. Back on topic, it would be a wise move by Mr Abe to attend the parade
