Beijing was committed to resolving disputes peacefully.

Has it ever done that?

"As we have promised, the projects will not affect freedom of navigation in the South China Sea."

Watch this space for news on the US Navy conducting Freedom of Navigation ops in the area soon. We're more than ready to call their bluff.

I hope so. Do the Chinese have radar jamming capability? Kinda like how the russian's (su-24) electronically incapacitated the USS D. Cook.

That was a demoralizing incident to that crew.

How come only now this statement has been made by the Chinese? And what damage will it do to fishing in the area to pile sand on top of reefs? Fish bred in healthy reefs because the reefs harbour food. With a growing shortage of fish in the world, particularly in area that eats so much of it, this is a thoughtless act.
