Meaning, Japan has several old types of cluster bombs, to counter China's precision nuclear tipped munitions.

Not to sure if these cluster bombs are meant just to deter the Chinese, but I am sure they would be no match for anything nuclear. I hate cluster bombs, especially after watching what the Israelis did to the Lebanese children and other civilians last year during that stupid war. BAN CLUSTER BOMBS NOW!

"Hamada said he sees no reason why Japan should acquire new models when the issue of cluster bombs has commanded such wide attention".
I'm glad the issue got a lot of attention then.

Actually, my comment was made to illustrate the point that it makes little difference if Japan has cluster bombs or not, judging by the massive multi-faceted arsenal, both in terms of conventional and strategic weapons, that China has.
If there was a 1 on 1 slug match between China and Japan (minus the US), Japan wouldn't last for 30 minutes.

"we will not use those cluster bombs"
Heck, they don't need those cluster bombs - they've got all sorts of other neat stuff that can kill and maim people.
