    If Futemma base was good enough for the Japan in WWII then it should still be good enough for the Marines today !

    Although I did have one Marine pilot tell me that it gets socked in alot with low cloud/fog conditions more than they would like.

    Or am I missing the point and actually someone wants to build a hotel there?

    Point missed.

    There is almost never any fog in Okinawa. Clouds are not and issue also. Futenma is about 200feet above sea level, not up in the clouds. Kadena AB is 4-5 miles up the road. The issue is location. The runway cuts off a few hundred feet from the fence and houses are build along the fence line.

    Look at Google earth, 26 degrees N and 127 E from 10,000 feet and you will see what the fuss is about.

    No, because if they did it woulde cease to be an overseas base for forward deployed units in the Pacific AOR? Duh.
