It is 5,544 pages, to be exact. And weighs 100 pounds (45 kg).

Now we can find all the fingerprints of the corporate insiders who wrote a lot of this document.

I skimmed the chapter on intellectual property. It actually looks pretty sane and reasonable, without any of the crazy provisions that US companies were trying to get.

Really? So far I haven't seen ANY Republicans who like it (Is that a surprise?). And considering the reaction from both parties,it might not be perfect but not such a bad deal either. It's called a compromise.

but in asia and most other countries, the copyright was only for 50 years, and for some things 25 years, so this deal actually extends the copyright in asia, which is basically what the US/mickey mouse wanted. so this is a loss for consumers.

all govt's involved in the TPP will just ram it down our throats so i really see no use in protesting. this trade agreement will be ratified. take my word for it.

TPP = corporate exploitation on an unprecedented scale. It's a VERY BAD deal for the citizens of all of the countries involved.

70 years after someone's death for copyright is now and has always been just silly. And unnecessary IMO. I mean, if Disney lost copyright control of Mickey and all the early characters they could just sell their stuff as "official" products. And people would still buy it. TPP extending this provision to other countries does nothing but stifle artists trying to use what should be public domain by now.

Yes, that's true. Japan actually has life of the author +50 years on many types of works so they would have to make changes.

However, TPP also seems to allow countries to adopt a system of just 70 years from the date of first publication (rather than from the death of the author), so some countries could actually end up with shorter copyright protection if they go down this route (that's a bit of a surprise). In any event, it's much better than the life +150 years rumors we were hearing.

For TPP to come into effect, the agreement must be ratified by at least 6 member countries with a combined GDP of 85% of all the member countries. The US and Japan make up 60% and 18% respectively of the total GDP of the TPP signatories. That means if US or Japan fails to ratify the treaty, TPP will be botched.

It is bad it makes companies rich and people peasants. They locked communication down to legislatures. Problems need to be settled with world court. NWO. I've heard people say we've been sold out, by our government it was this or war with China. It was all agreed to before anyone knew what was in it. Have you heard about those Islands China has made? True, but they reached an agreement, which they didn't bother releasing the details of to the public beforehand. Obviously they can still back out if it's not signed and ratified yet, but there would likely have been more opposition and pressure in some cases not even to reach an agreement if people knew the details beforehand.
