Diet delays vote on Japan exporting its nuclear technology

TOKYO —

The Diet on Friday put off a vote on whether to approve Japan’s export of nuclear technology to Vietnam, Jordan, Russia and South Korea.

The vote in the House of Representatives was originally scheduled for Friday but the opposition Liberal Democratic Party asked for the vote to be delayed until next Tuesday so that the government can make its policy clearer, TBS reported.

Japan’s plan to export Japanese nuclear technology to build reactors is still on track despite its own freeze on building new plants because of safety concerns after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami crippled the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

Noda said that Japan had already signed accords with Vietnam, Jordan, Russia and South Korea, and started negotiations with Brazil, Turkey and India

A nuclear power station is really a big nuclear bomb kit in disguise. As they discovered back in the 60's. Once a country gets the basic technology and trains the engineers it's just a secret lab away from joining the nuclear club.

Nuclear power stations won't be going away for a long time. Technology has advanced so much on nuclear power plants with Japan being a leader in the field. Japan also needs the business. Many countries can not generate the power required by other means for their growing populations.

Bear in mind, Japan has many hydro dams, but it is not enough to supply the whole country.

Everyone seems to base their opinions on Fukushima which was a once in a lifetime disaster. However, there is much more to Fukushima if one searches the net. A country which I won't mention in charge of security and with remote access to the plant and the placing of a very large camera device in reactor No.3. Not to mention the Stuxnet virus which can be used to undermine operations of electrical equipment in nuclear and water facilities around the world.

The envelopes aren't quite fat enough yet to give the unconditional green light.

No need to export sea wall technology. It sucks.

Accidents happen. Accidents will always happen. That why they are called accidents. Problem with nuclear accidents are that the effect lasts for many year. Oil spills are bad but after 10-20 years nature recovers. With nuclear accidents it is MUCH longer. even in high-tech Japan TEPCO failed again and again to keep reactor safe. even in "reliable" Japan TEPCO and government lied again and again. Why to expect it will be any better in Jordan, Russia, Vietnam or south Korea?
There are many benefits for nuclear energy, but risk is too high.

    Good one cactus.

    Export. They need the cash.

The tech is good. The problem is with where it is put and protected.

Tepco, etc..have way too much BLOOD on their hands here in JAPAN with the stupid mess they have caused not only for FUKUSHIMA but even down here in TOKYO we are not sure if our food, our water etc..is contaminated by RADIATION and now these Japanese idiots want to send this technology to Vietnam?? WTF are they thinking!!! It is not in this news, but Mitsubishi is also working on making NUCLEAR POWER REACTORS in....INDONESIA!! This is the country that has the most earthquakes in the world! And Indonesia also has a crappy airline that falls out of the skies once in a while, Garuda, plus they have Muslim terrorists etc..real nice to have Al Qaeda get there hands on a nuclear weapon??

By nuclear weapon I do not mean missiles like those that the USA, Israel, China, Russia etc..have I mean must a plain old DIRTY BOMB, that we were so lucky in the USA not to have had that happen on 9/11, so I do hope these stupid Japanese companies reconsider what they are trying to do in the name of $$$$$$$$$$!!!!!!

No, don't deal aggressively with important issues like the above. Rather, spend time on more essential things like why Japan lost to North Korea in soccer, or petty party politics surrounding the gaffe about Okinawa by a minister.
