This the best reason to go traveling so you can experience other traditions and celebrations. If you do it in person instead of reading about it, maybe you can get a better understanding how other people truly live. Just think....if we all did the same thing, the world would be kind of boring.

I think it shows respect of other people's culture.

I agree with everyone above. The only silly thing is calling the shirts silly.

Some people find it difficult to accept others way of life or even sampling different culture dress and style. However being close minded and intolerant are not the way to go especially when there is so much we can learn about others culture. Learning to accept and respect is an important step that opens your mind to the world around and everyone's unique differences. How rude to make fun and call this a 'silly shirt' diplomatic parade. Hence by developing an open mind and not stereotyping, looking at other peoples religion, history, trying new cuisines and just talking to people from diverse cultures will help you to appreciate different people and can be a really great experience.

I find this a good tradition, building relationships and a chance to get rid of the ordinary...

Also, I find the black "penguin suits" worn by the average politicians (from any country) at least at silly...

"silly shirt"
Heck, these Indonesian threads look way cooler than western business suits, and the useless neckties worn with those are what's silly.
