Superb. One cancer in Japanese society finally being addressed, and a "total ban on amakudari" is an in-your-face, no-nonsense measure which we don't usually expect from J-politicians. This guy isn't playing games. Go DPJ!

Good luck with that - these entrenched practices and the power-players behind them won't let these 'sweet deals' slip away easily.

"eyeing" doesn't mean "doing"...the japanese are all talk no action

  • smithinjapan at 12:38 PM JST - 22nd August

Start with the old guys who retire from big companies or government and who get a job that seems like merely smoking and drinking coffee in City Halls around Japan.

Anyway, 'eyeing' is not at all the same as actually DOING what they pledged to, and as such you can see that already the DPJ is ready to take on the usual Japanese task of doing nothing but spieling out what 'ought to be done' (by SOMEone).

These civil DIS-servants shud be rounded up & jailed, they go through their cushy jobs making sure bid rigging is rampant( which costs us all many trillions of yen each year), so they are essentially be paid to STEAL from their country to pad the accounts of private & semi-private organizations, which they then float into because they have essentially stolen tax payers $$$ to give to companies which then use some of the stolen funds to pay these a$$holes.

I repeat these criminals need to be jailed!!

And the watchdog panel will be staffed by.... you guessed it -- Amakudari!

  • Betting at 11:27 PM JST - 22nd August

Amakudari is the bane of Japanese society, there is nothing good about it at all.The sooner it gets the chop, the better for everyone.

  • TokyoRoughGuy at 03:15 AM JST - 23rd August

NO! This is how we guarantee jobs for retiring bureaucrats. What will motivate therm now?

  • blvtzpk at 08:11 AM JST - 23rd August

This claim by the DPJ seems like simply more electioneering - promises that won't be fulfilled.

  • NeilWarnock at 09:08 AM JST - 23rd August

DPJ; May i suggest a talk with highly respected politicians Boris Johnston and John Prescott for advice and assistance. they are the type of liberal good guys you need to talk to to win big time.

if they do not remove it. I challenge the Japanese public to take matters into their own hands. The French Revolution springs to mind.
