MATSUYAMA —
Ichiro Ozawa, president of the main opposition Democratic Party of Japan, said Monday he considers integrating his party with the minor opposition People’s New Party as an option ahead of a possible House of Representatives election in the coming months. ‘‘I think it’s an option in order to thoroughly cooperate in selecting candidates for the next lower house election,’’ Ozawa said at a press conference in Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture.
Ozawa is scheduled to meet with Tamisuke Watanuki, a former House of Representatives speaker and currently head of the People’s New Party, on Tuesday to discuss election pledges. ‘‘I would like to take up (the unity idea)’’ during the talks with Watanuki, he said.
