DPJ hopes to start Diet session in early Oct despite LDP opposition
TOKYO —
The government is hoping to convene the next Diet session as early as next week, Democratic Party of Japan policy affairs chief Seiji Maehara said at a news conference on Thursday.
He said that the government and the opposition need to make fast progress on negotiations for the passage of the third supplementary budget to fund reconstruction in the Tohoku region.
Meanwhile, TBS reported that LDP chief Sadakazu Tanigaki remains reluctant to discuss the budget until the Ozawa political fund scandal is dealt with in the Diet. Three of Ozawa’s aides were found guilty Monday for accepting 100 million yen in illegal donations from a construction company and for failing to register a 400 million yen loan from Ozawa to his funding body in a 2004 Tokyo land deal.
The opposition parties have demanded that Ozawa testify in the Diet, although Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda said it would not be appropriate ahead of Ozawa’s trial which is scheduled to begin on Oct 6.
Maehara said the issue of whether or not Ozawa should testify in the Diet must not hold up talks on the budget which needs to be passed as soon as possible to help the Tohoku area, TBS reported.

Now, the game begins. And that is again and would be again and again. It would be line tagging. When will they ever be working for the common good? Despite of this, they'll be receiving their salaries and extra allotments while poor people like me are dreaming good things will still come out of this mess.

Tanigaki should take a trip up to Tohoku and explain to the evacuees why he can't discuss the budget passage and why Ozawa is more important then them ... if not, then shut up and co operate with DPJ on reconstruction budget as that is what he promised to do if Kan resigned... crooked LDP clown

Same planet he was from when he said he would not deal with budgets for Tohoku until "Kan stepped down from power", which Kan did. In other words, just a jerk from a planet that makes the children of the world seem more mature than the adults, and making any excuse to finally get into power (that's his endgame) where he'll suddenly suggest that everyone needs to work together, despite being opposition or in the same party, bla bla bla.

@smithinjapan I have to agree with you on this one.
Really, now people. The next diet session should start as soon as possible. The Ozawa's issue has nothing to do with the passage of the third supplementary budget and should be dealt with immediately. MInd numbingly stupid I can't believe that Sadakazu Tanigaki has not been spiking his own tea cup to have said such an ignorant thing! Grow a BRAIN! I also can't believe that this guy is actually the head of the LDP, but this sure will not help the lDP in the next election. At least not in the Tohoku region, of course.
Even though I think Ozawa is a toad, I don't believe he should have to testify in the Diet either, until after his court case. He has rights just like everyone else.
Tanigaki, would sing a whole different song if the shoe was on the other foot, He would be screaming bloody murder in the name of Tohoku if the DPJ tried something to stall reconstruction efforts in Tohoku if one if his own had gotten caught in such a scandal. He is an opportunist at best and unfortunately, he like many of own counterparts are short-sighted in their policies and are only interested in what is best for their political careers, instead of what is best for the country. That is what is killing this country just like in the United States. I hope it comes back and bites him in the backside.

I mean really now!! Are you going to sit there and honestly tell the people of Tohoku to wait for reconstruction of their ravaged area for some other issue that has absolutely nothing to do with them? BORISH, SELFISH AND SHORT-SIGHTED! Please quit, moron. You are not serving the people, only yourself. We need some real politicians!!!!!!
