Policy chiefs from the ruling Democratic Party of Japan and the opposition Liberal Democratic and New Komeito parties agreed at a meeting Thursday to revise the government's renewable energy bill. Passage of the bill is one of the conditions that Prime Minister Naoto Kan had stated for stepping down.
DPJ policy chief Koichiro Gemba said the revised bill would allow the Environment Ministry and other relevant agencies to have a say in determining costs for energy projects, rather than just leaving it to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
The bill is expected to be passed around Aug 26, a DPJ official told a news conference.

There are no details yet, globalwatcher - they have only agreed to revise the bill. I don't see how they can expect to have a completed bill in just two weeks, unless the LDP expects Kan and the DPJ to agree with everything they propose.
They are not cooperating on a bill. They are cooperating only in the decision to revise a bill. We'll see how much "cooperation" there is in the next two weeks.

If ever there was a country that should make solar and wind and wave energy the corner stone of it energy supplies it should be Japan. If Fukushima doesn't wake the government up, nothing will.
