My thoughts exactly Potsu. I say they should increase the age to 35.

Potsu, 50 would probably make more sense.

does being an ADULT allow you to drink?
Maybe that is the real factor, the beer companies are supporting the DPJ!
noborito at 09:59 PM JST - 24th July
All about drinking. 18 years olds get smashed anyway, why not make it legal.

the legal age of adulthood to 18 from 20
Yet people live with (and mooch off) their parents into their early 40's...
usaexpat at 11:52 PM JST - 24th July
It also would allow for them to smoke and drink 2 years earlier I wonder which industries might just maybe be contributing to the DPJ?

The main thing is that 18 year old punks will no longer have their identities protected and sent to a reformatory for setting people on fire, terrorizing, killing and beheading families.
They'll no longer be considered "innocent and impressionable minors".

More urgent to subsidize communal facilities for homeless and net cafe refugees.

Is everyone ignoring the obvious? They are creating a new voting bloc to support them in future elections.
With needy new high school graduates and baby boomers wanting to suck as much as they can from 30 and 40 somethings, the DPJ will be invincible as long as the gravy train keeps rolling.
The Communists must be kicking themselves. DPJ is getting it done with half of the outrageous promises. Maybe the communist party has finally figured out that promising everything all the time does not help their credibility.

Why not 14? That is the age the goverment has said children can quit school. Whereas, 18 is the western standard for both.

You're right, but then it has to be repealed again at 65... for the men, anyway. They seem to become dependent little children again who need to be served and then told what to do in society again once they retire... and by that I mean, of course, retire and not work after retiring (although that's part of the 'being told what to do' again thing).
Seriously, though... I'm all for lowering the age to 18 or 19 from 20, particularly if it means that the people who are 18 or 19 who commit murder and are still protected as 'minors' get charged as adults.
