Countries around the world are studying the measure how to offer relief to their citizen amid severe economic conditions, whereas Japan is studying the opposite despite severe recession. Auto-Elec production cut is understood not the rice production. Study Price cut not rice cut.

They need to rethink the approach. For example, instead of discouraging production, let the market determine the price (lower!) and give them a small bonus per bushel sold. This might keep the farmer's income reasonable per bushel of rice produced, so that they don't have to work like mad for the same money, but are encouraged to produce. Free money for not working to artificially keep prices high doesn't help at all.

What is acreage? I thought Japan used the metric system? In any case, the govt. should not be manipulating prices like this. And they should allow imports of rice with no tarrifs.

Japan had to adapt rice acreage cut policy to maintain price to protect rice producing farmers, otherwise import rice will make them out of business.

Maybe they should increase acreage and encourage more people to go in the farming business so Japan can export rice and provide more jobs for people getting laid off and ensure that Japan can produce enough food to feed its own population if economic/world conditions forced that upon Japan.
