We know it's not going to happen soon. Other countries, especially the U.S., have been pushing Japan for two decades to do more to stimulate domestic demand and decrease the reliance on an export-driven economy.

Just received the paperwork for my 12,000 Yen stimulus payment, and judging by the amount of photocopying, writing, traveling, submitting, and then a long list of approvals, it will tie up the local government for months processing it. Still, it will go towards a memory upgrade on one of my computers....

After the 12000 Yen stimulus comes the cut of the summer bonus in the order of 10 percent. Then for a bonus in the order of 1000000 Yen, the workers will loose 100000 Yen. That will be the opposite of a stimulus.
But still also Government Offices and related institutions will cut the bonus. Nice work to increase spending. NOT.

We'll see if the stimulus package is spent wisely. If so, this economic crisis could be an opening to restructure the Japanese economy for the 21st Century - instead of a crisis, it can be a chance to renovate industries for changing times. Example would be a strong lean toward "green industries".

Some14some...Amakudari...ha-ha. It also might be a good idea if they could somehow persuade that Todai, Keio, Waseda, Meiji, Rikkyo and Hosei... frat packs to get on the band wagon and join more domestic market operations…
