Fujii to skip APEC finance ministerial meeting Thursday

TOKYO —

Finance Minister Hirohisa Fujii will be absent from a finance ministerial meeting of the 21-member Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in Singapore later this week, the Finance Ministry said Tuesday. Shinichiro Furumoto, a parliamentary secretary for finance, will attend the one-day meeting Thursday on Fujii’s behalf, a ministry official said.

Fujii has decided to give priority to parliamentary deliberations, the official said. Among the major topics APEC finance ministers are expected to address are the state of the global economy and steps toward more sustainable and balanced growth in the region, according to officials preparing for the meeting.
