Guess there is a lie there something but it's a secret. BTW, what is with the Japanese and stomach cancer? It's like a national disease and yet not real research is being done in Japan about it. Must be another ostrich thing.

madammiz, Many people in this island country still seem to think that getting cancer is a sign of weakness on the part of the diseased. There seems to be a stigma attached to cancer not found in diseases like diabetes or high blood pressure. That's why Fukuda didn't tell anyone. But, at 10 years and counting, I'd say the cancer was eliminated.

Not really borscht. This has nothing to do with signs of weakness. It has to do with Mr. Fukuda wanting to keep it private because he didn't want it to be a distraction from his political career, or give his 'enemies' a reason to question his ability to lead because after all stomach cancer is one of the most deadly cancers around. Not all people are as eager as Hollywood celebrities to pimp their diseases around to garner sympathy. Many fight diseases without making it a big deal, so Mr. Fukuda is to be praised for this.

By the way, the high sodium content of many Japanese meals seems to be a catalyst for the higher rates of stomach cancer.
