BEIJING —
Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda expressed his sympathy Thursday to Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero over the crash of a Spanish airliner at Madrid airport on Wednesday. ‘‘I feel a deep sorrow many precious lives were lost in an airplane accident at Madrid Barajas International Airport,’’ Fukuda said in a statement. ‘‘Representing the Japanese people and the Japanese government, I offer my deep condolences,’’ he said.
According to media reports from Spain, the Spanish airliner crashed on takeoff at the airport, killing 153 out of the total of 172 passengers and crew members aboard.

RIP folks, and I fear that those 153 were the lucky ones. It was an inferno, according to TV Espana.
