TOKYO —
Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda pledged Friday to tackle sea-related problems including pollution and maritime terrorism as he released a statement ahead of the Marine Day national holiday on Monday.
Fukuda further mentioned the need for Japan to deal with overfishing, maritime accidents and problems with neighboring countries over undersea energy and mineral resources. ‘‘The role of the sea has become more important now amid increasing needs for handling global environmental issues such as climate change and resource use,’’ Fukuda said in the statement. ‘‘Japan, which has evolved through the protection of the sea, must deal with these problems face to face and transform itself into a country which protects the sea.’’

It's too late to address resource issues in the Japan sea unless he can figure out a way to cook giant jelly fish. Possibly he is going to think of new ways of scientifically researching(raping) the seas of the rest of the world.

Care to give specifics of how you are going to tackle the problems?

"has become more important now"? Now? Really?

Well I definitely agree on the issue of overfishing anyway. It is a serious problem, that does need to be addressed. Not sure how they're planning to tackle it though.

Lets see...problem of overfishing - solved by making it too expensive to buy fuel to go fishing. Maritime accidents - solved because no one can afford to buy fuel to go out to sea. Energy and mineral resource problem - solved because no one can afford to buy fuel for exploration. Sounds like Fukuda needs a new job.

lol, suppose that is true. Rising fuel prices will solve most of the problems, one way or another.
