I thought Fukuda didn't want to cause 'confusion' in Japan. By repealing and then reinstating the tax, isn't he causing more confusion? It would be less confusing if he just repealed the tax and let the economy grow. But then, where would the bribes come from?
DeepAir65 - 'no more bridges with roads at either end' sounds like a good idea. I'm sure you meant 'no more bridges without roads at either end.' I caught this because 'good idea' and 'Japanese government' should never be in the same sentence.

I guess that's like still calling Narita "New Tokyo Airport" 30 plus years later!
Sob, sob - no more bridges with roads at either end. No more roads in the sticks that go nowhere and just end.
