TOKYO —
The government is set to draw up a supplementary budget for its emergency economic stimulus package, Economic and Fiscal Policy Minister Kaoru Yosano said Friday. The government is now working on the policy package, which is mainly intended to ease the negative impact on the economy from inflationary pressures that are driving gasoline and food prices sharply higher.
‘‘We saw an agreement in opinions to proceed with work to create a supplementary budget’‘, Yosano told reporters after meeting with other relevant ministers. But he did not elaborate on the scale of the budget. Yosano also said he does not want to take any steps that could lead to ‘‘pork-barrel’’ spending, stressing the need for the government to continue to observe fiscal discipline.
