And there was a thunderous revelation from the heavens that showed them the way.
I hope that their cuts are to things that make sense to cut. Like all the corruption and the xbillion percent of revenue that goes to paving the entire island chain over.
Sadly Fukuda and crowd have so far gone after handicapped and elderly people. Taking money away from those who need it most.
So challenge Fukuda, take some money away from some of your friends in industry. And stop funding brain dead projects and all the many things that drain money but give nothing back.
Finally, some one in a government has realized raising taxes=lower spending= less money... Just wish they would really do this, but I doubt they will.
I bet Fukuda doesn't accept a pay cut.
How about stop spending so much on tearing up a perfectly good stretch of road, only to lay it down again, so that they keep their alloted wad of cash for the next year.. waste!
Cut half of the staff at EVERY City Hall in the countries, for starters, and especially the 'already retired' Amakudari who continue to get a salary WHILE receiving their pension benefits.... and all for sitting in the corner and drinking coffee.
Most everyone else on this thread has already mentioned the need to cut unnecessary construction, so I'll let that one lie.
Yes, They could certainly trim the public works budget. They spend a month outside my pervious apartment making a wide road narrow. They could also close a few public schools with such a low birth rate.
I don't think it would do a lot for the economy as a whole, just switch things around a bit. As long as people still want to buy Japanese Government bonds we can just keep going along as we are.

'spending cuts' may have limitations of its own but there is plenty of room for cutting wasteful use of money.
