And they are now "Thinking about it?" Funny how slow this government really is. Perhaps someday they will think about doing something to help the average Japanese and Foreign Residents.

Nothing will change at all. Biz as usual, as we see with another " Task Force ". Even if the market situation will ease, Japanese unemployment rate will be high for a very lomg time to come. So Kids, prey that your already old parents will live long enough to finance your miserable lifes. In old times the feudal system was worried about resistance from exploited farmers. In the 21 st. century for God sake there are cell phones, cars and the exciting jap. TV to calm the masses. Look at all the young rebels and their interests in anything but the above mentioned gadgets. You may think I am too pessimistic ? Right you are - the manga, anime and cosplay industry will create millions of jobs and then the empire will rise again to its old glory.

Foreign residents are free to leave if they feel it is too hard to find jobs, if they are desperate job seekers or if they think the government will always be here to help everyone...

ahhh another task force... there's one for everything in Japan. Whoever leads it will step down shortly.

What was the use of 'Hello Work'? Now they are planning to waste some more months by establishing a new Task Force. With public debt: 173% of GDP (2008 est.), Japan can not organize a magic show to boost its economy.
You can not stop outsourcing that is killing your economy day by day, even city office is not serious in Japan. In the name of ‘cost-cut’, they buy poly bag from overseas.

what is the foreigner unemployment in Japan, anyway?
DeepAir65 at 03:03 AM JST - 6th October
I am out of work for a year now and I don't count on their figures as I am no longer receiving unemployment benefits - actually I have to pay almost as much in tax this year as I received in benefits. OK I am a foreigner and have the option to leave (trying to) but what about the poor Japanese who have no option?
It is crazy - let me repeat because I was earning last year I pay almost as much in tax as I was given in benefits. Actually when you take into account the health insurance (you can stop pension payments) I am paying more than I received in benefits.
I sense a crime wave coming or increased suicides... :-(

Does that statistic cover part timers? I have to agree with a lot of the postings, in that rising unemployment has been a issue for the government for a long time and no one just does not know how to address it. Can you imagine what the statistic must be for those people that live on the fringe of japanese society? e.g. ethnic 3rd or 4th gen koreans/chinese? Foreigners? All I can say is good luck but if I was a young Japanese person I would leave "Dodge"

Other than major tax cuts on working Japanese citizens, Japanese goverment needs to implement large projects to stimulate the domestic market. Develop a Las Vegas type resort in Okinawa with govenment backed low interest loan for potential investors from domestic and abroad. Offer large discounts on international travelers coming to Japan (other than Japanese citizens) for flights, accomadations and tour package sponsored by the Japanese government. If these travelers come to Japan, they have to spend money. Japan needs to increase tourist from abroad and make Japan a interesting, fun, and affordable destination for travelers.
