TOKYO -- The government will resubmit its proposal for the next Bank of Japan governor after opposition parties blocked the nomination of BOJ Deputy Governor Toshiro Muto as new chief of the central bank, sources close to the matter said Thursday.
It will present the proposal to the Diet by Monday, said the sources. But uncertainty remains over whether Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda will offer an alternative candidate or nominate Muto again despite strong protest from the opposition bloc to such a move.
