TOKYO —
Former Finance Minister Sadakazu Tanigaki, 64, is expected to secure about 100 votes, or more than a half of the 199 votes of Liberal Democratic Party lawmakers, in Monday’s party leadership election, party members said Thursday.
Two junior candidates Taro Kono, 46, and Yasutoshi Nishimura, 46, seem likely to secure about 30 votes each, but despite Tanigaki’s lead in votes by lawmakers the fate of the election will depend on the 300 other votes to be cast by local party members, they said.

Those are probably going to be the votes of all the grandpas who have held their Diet seats for 20 terms and want to continue doing things the same way as they did in 1981. Tanigaki won't stand up to them.
