He is paying his rent on his own and not claiming it as an expense? I am confused. Why is this wrong? I am not that swift with this stuff. What I am gathering from this is that he is paying out of his own pocket for his rent and not getting a break by claiming it as an office expense. But then again, his salary comes from the taxpayers, does it not? So he needs to claim it so we know where he is spending his money but further to that, office expenses are claimed to get a tax break. But if those expenses are paid for by tax money, how can a politician turn around and try to get a tax break from it? Are politicians taxed on the money they are paid from citizen's taxes?
