Once again showing he doesn't value relations with China.

Hatoyama is a good man. The governmant in China needs to allow human rights. This is for the whole humanity.
Kwaabish at 08:17 AM JST - 2nd November
Good for him. Almost all of the globe recognizes and likes to have discussions with the man, perhaps CCP is the only one that just doesn't ge the clue...

people should stop tip toeing around china, we only kiss ass because they produce everything for us with cheap labor. if it werent for this we wouldnt give a toss about what they thought. Until we speak out their human rights record will never change. How about we start makig things in our own country again and then we can watch china fall apart hahaha.

The Dalai Lama is a dictator, why does he want to meet with him?
pawatan at 09:58 AM JST - 2nd November
A dictator of what? He hasn't had a country in 50 years.

I am sick to death of everyone tiptoeing around China and trying to pacify them when we really should be telling them that their actions are not acceptable.
China represses the Uyghurs and no one does anything. China takes over Tibet and labels her spiritual leader a separatist and no one will meet with him. Not to mention their ongoing threats against Taiwan. And their support of regimes like N.Korea.
It is time the major powers stopped tiptoeing and started being clear with China.
Meet the Dali Lama. Talk clearly about Taiwanese sovereighty. Send clear messages about China's treatment of ethnic populations.
The only reason we are not is that too many powerful influences from the corporate world are involved here and stand to make money in China regardless of her human rights and political record. But I firmly believe that a unified stand against China's policies coupled with a clear message that positive momement on these issues could result in greater economic and political gains for China is the right path.
Continued head hiding will embolden China to do what she wants to without regard for external sentiment as those will have no actual consequences for China.

Good on Hatoyama for not being a bootlicker of China.
The Dala Lama is a peaceful spiritual leader. Anyone who says otherwise is likely living under an autocratic regime.
Go read a book.

Well said tkoind2. Unfortunately, business interests and political gain always seem to outweigh compassion and human rights.

Ahh all these negative comments about the Dalai from obviously Chinese readers!
I say it's good that he meets with him. The only ones to complain are the Han-Chinese because it's a thorn in their side (not long before China starts to throw mud at Japan again).
