Stopping Tweeting isn't going to change his views. And that horse has already bolted.

    Time to step down.

    "stop tweeting"

    Or, just shut up already.

Ishihara has actually said something sensible!

when Shintaro Ishihara tells you to "tone it down a little", you know you've gone off the deep end.

  • 24

    Sensato

Hashimoto is even making Ishihara cringe — that certainly is no easy feat.

  • 10

    Realistic

The advice should be "Start thinking".

Ishihara has actually said something sensible!

but (irony) it has been rejected by Hashimoto.

Half a million followers does not necessarily mean half a million that actually like him.

You know you are in trouble when Ishihara is the one telling you to stop talking/tweeting.

  • 3

    Okinawamike

Ishihara's advice should have been "Dude, you need a bigger shovel" or stop digging already!

  • 5

    mu-da

For politicians like Ishihara and Hashimoto the 140 character format is plenty enough to make their views clear. Everybody understood just fine.

Tokyo mwmbers of Ishsin-no-kai must have been sick and tired of daily talks of Hashimoto, beside Nishimura, Whether hashimoto created Ishin-no-kai or not, they must have felt Ishihara should act now. Hashimoto is very creative and he has organization skills. Ishihara was creative when he was writing novels. However, his fans are dieing out. Hashimoto's fans in Osaka still support Hashimoto. Late is better than no action. I see death of this party very soon.

You mean his late brother's fans are dying out :)

The more Hashimoto yammers on like a fool, the less likely he is to get (re)elected to any meaningful position of power, I hope. Let him tweet.

The more Hashimoto yammers on like a fool, the less likely he is to get (re)elected to any meaningful position of power, I hope.

Unfortunately, this is not usually the case in Japanese politics.

Ishihara lost his one man stage when he quit as Tokyo's mayor, now he is just one of a few hundred, and technically wasn't even elected "directly" by any constituency, proportional representation is how he got this meal ticket.

Thankfully he's been silent of late, but he sure seemed to know when to shut up, unlike his protoge'.

Ishihara—who also is known for his nationalistic views—said the 140-character format was not long enough for a proper explanation of a position.

Okinawamike... He did say "you need a bigger shovel"

Twitter is “an important tool to convey views,”

No it's not! It is just somewhere for you to sit in front of a computer with your shochu and the rising sun flag draped over shoulders while you write any imperialistic rubbish that comes into your silly little mind.

I think all of his followers just like to read his stupid comments.

The crazy thing would be if this guy actually got re-elected. People like him exist, but I am more troubled by masses of people who silently approve of his garbage.

Ishihara was used to write lengthy novel. He can't stand sort comments. Maybe he wants Hashimoto to write a lengthy comments so that Hashimoto shut up while hee is composing?

Ishihara should not be giving advice on extracting large feet from tiny mouths. He was the poster child our buddy Hashimoto aspired to be when he grew up. Student like teacher here. Hashimoto is Ishihara the younger.

All politicians should stop tweeting. It is not dignified and anway whatever they say in 140 characters can't be worth that much.

Isn't it about time one of his friends did him a favor by sewing his mouth shut and gluing his fingers together? Surely even he could then manage to stay out of trouble.

bruinfan: "The crazy thing would be if this guy actually got re-elected. People like him exist, but I am more troubled by masses of people who silently approve of his garbage."

Here's the sad part: he'll probably be reelected with a majority vote. Why? The radicals that support him will without a doubt go and vote, but other than them Japanese are largely apathetic when it comes to elections.

Needs someone to come up to him in a corridor and whisper: "a word in yer ear sunshine..." I think advising him not to Tweet is too little too late. He needs censured.

Ishihara making sense for once is due to the international flack that Japan is getting.

U.N. urges Japan to block defamation of 'comfort women' , asks Japan to do something about the hate speeches against Koreans in Japan, and asks Japan to teach the proper history of comfort women in their schools.

    http://ajw.asahi.com/article/behindnews/socialaffairs/AJ201305220071

This is why I think people like Hashimoto, by bringing international attention to Japan's revisionism, are bringing more and more outside pressure to Japan. Japanese care much about their international reputation.

TOKYO —Shintaro Ishihara, a political ally and co-leader of the Japan Restoration Party with Osaka Mayor Toru Hashimoto, has reportedly advised his younger colleague to stop tweeting.

that doesn't sound like a real SAMURAI. if hashimoto stops tweeting, he will prove himself to be a COWARD.

I don't think Hashimoto cares about Ishihara. He just wants to use him to his advantage and then hope that he dies soon.

Ishihara—who also is known for his nationalistic views—said the 140-character format was not long enough for a proper explanation of a position.

Of course. 140 is nowhere near enough to post racist drivel coming out of Hashimoto or Ishihara's mouths. Imagine squeezing Mein Kampf onto two A4 sides.

I copied following from WikiPedia. Kapanese language versions had details more but English version is OK. In a 2001 interview with women's magazine Shukan Josei, Ishihara said that he believed "old women who live after they have lost their reproductive function are useless and are committing a sin," adding that he "couldn't say this as a politician." He was criticized in the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly for these comments, but responded that the criticism was driven by "tyrant… old women. -------------- there were more other controversial statements he made. You may not like Abe, but USC educated Abe is not a wmen hater and worked for equal ecucation for female. He has advantage dealing with US politicians. When USA politicians talk things without relaizing Abe knows what kind of secret they are talking becuase he has California English fluently.
