TOKYO —
Tokyo Gov Shintaro Ishihara on Tuesday called on the Japanese government to take action toward an early settlement of the issue regarding food poisoning cases in Japan involving Chinese-made “gyoza” dumplings. “There will be big trouble if poison was mixed in the food at the athletes’ village at the Beijing Olympics,” Ishihara said at a meeting of the Liberal Democratic Party’s Research Commission for the Establishment of a Sports Oriented Nation.
Ishihara said that China’s administrative control became ‘‘loose’’ under the administration of Chinese President Hu Jintao. ‘‘It would be horrific if the dumpling incident was carried out by those who bear antigovernment sentiment, and not caused by anti-Japanese elements or those who oppose their company.’’

Isn't the Japanese Olympic team bringing their own food like everyone else with any brains? And what difference does it make to the victims if the dumpling incident was carried out by anti-Chinese govt people ot anti-Japan people? Is he actually saying that the former would be more horrific than the latter?

Would this "fast settlement of the gyoza issue" occur before or after the settlement of a certain banking issue?
Honestly, I don't know why the Japanese media continue to panda (sorry pander) to Mr. Ishihara and his motor-mouth. Although I understand that quotes from him sell newspapers, what comes out of his mouth is little more than xenophobic bile.

I don't recall the source of the poison ever being confirmed.
Unless Ishihara got slipped a few million yen by domestic gyoza producers, losing market share to Chinese exports, whats he mouthing off about?
Without any proof the poisoned gyoza originated in China, there is still a 50/50 chance it happened here in Japan.
The Ueno zoo may have lost its beloved Panda, but Tokyo's chief panderer is alive and well.
