The two countries plus Korea lost a lot of economic chances wasting time in futile auguments on historical issues by political leaders. Confrontations bring no goodness.

Premier Li is the No 2 politician of China.

It's even arguable whether Li is the second-in-line.

“China will unswervingly stick to the path of peaceful development and hopes that Japan continues to go down the same path"

Japan is already on that path and has been for 70 years. China is way off this path of "peaceful development"

To ThePBot :

President Xi is the highest-ranking government official of China and has no desire to hold summit with PM Abe. He shook hands with PM Abe. Premier Li is ranked No 2.

PM Abe is the highest-ranking government official of Japan.

PRC is starting because their economy is tanking and requires Japan's investment that is why.

Japan has already started the business exodus out from PRC with many factories popping up in ASEAN nations and this is going to continue as we see more and more production bases in those nations exporting to PRC not the otherway around.

The days of PRC being the "World's factory" is long gone and PRC needs to find a new gig.

Yeah, because Japan is in a such good economic position that Xi Jinping wanted SO BADLY to meet with Abe, he sent his number 2 (or 3) guy.
