What this article essentially is saying is that the TPP will not pass.

The American way - profits over treatment and cures.

Horse manure. It is called providing an economic incentive/protection for the U.S. companies who spend billions in research each year to develop these cutting edge drugs -- which just happen to save and/or improve the quality of life for millions of people in Asia. Good on Obaba for not caving in to countries like Japan that just want to ride the U.S drug companies' coat tails.

@qwertyjapan Here's an example of predatory capitalism at its worst. However, I also agree with @jerseyboy that pharmaceutical companies should have adequate protection so they can continue to do R&D and still make a profit.

It looks like US intransigence will sink the TPP. It serves them right for trying to enforce their corrupt industrial protection laws on other countries. Also, given that the TPP is supposedly all about free trade, why are so many countries determined to keep their markets closed to New Zealand dairy products? Hypocritical whingers, the lot of them.

Under TPP, US drug makers can sell their drugs at astronomical prices in Japan, just like in the US, and the government will not be able to negotiate lower prices like they do now. If drugs are sold at lower prices under National Health Care system, the Japanese government has to compensate them for lost profits. DON'T let TPP destroy Japanese National Health Care!!!! Politicians like Abe don't care because they are all millionaires.

Research how much Big Pharma spends on marketing, advertising and paying lobby groups in Washington compared to their Research and Development costs. Interesting huh.
