How about the flu? Japan knows the annual damage done by flu, and already, an outbreak has been reported ... but no funds for flu.

Let Bill Gates do that. Use Japanese money to down pay the debt so taxes will not be raised.

Excellent point. I love how Japanese politicians are so generous with other people's money.

Bill Gates already contributed $750 million to help out the Global Fund after the graft was discovered. http://www.japantoday.com/category/world/view/gates-injects-750-mil-into-troubled-global-fund

Japan is just trying to maintain a global presence via philanthropy. Taxes would still have been raised, as this money had already been earmarked for non-deficit use.

Umm... I can't tell if you're joking or not, so... I love how the posters on JT are so generous with other people's (i.e. Bill Gates') money.

Read another article on this that revealed that $1.3 Billion that Japan donated was spread over three years counting this one. Last year's donation was short because of the troubles following the earthquake, so this year's donation was larger than normal to try and make up some of the shortfall.

Why doesn't Japan tell the rest of the world to lay off for a while as Japan has some serious problems that must be dealt with a home before it can throw more money overseas. It has some very good excuses: money is needed for the earthquake-and-tsunami-hit areas in Fukushima Prefecture, money that is needed for the old people's social security & pension funds, health programs and other vital programs.

And the rest of the world should lay off of Japan until it gets its finances back under control.

How about they use that money to help the japanese with the affliction they will be suffering from in a year or two, called "Higher Taxes"

Let me get something straight, Japan is donating 1.3 BILLLION dollars to fight diseases in other countries and at the same time cancel free health insurance for 18 years old and younger for those living in Fukushima PLUS raise consumtion tax etc, etc, etc. ........... Could someone please explain why the Japanese govenment refuses to take care of its own first?
