Manufacturing and selling weapons is not the same as re-arming, even though China looks like a total hypocrite if it complains.

In fact, several countries do both. Japan is not a special case. Weapons sales will help the economy to an extent and also keep certain technologies alive by keeping workers with specialist knowledge employed.

Even Australia, South Africa, etc makes / has made weapons with a certain degree of success. Anyone shaking in their boots thinking they will be expected to speak "Strine" or hug a koala?

Why Japan may not sell weapons? US, Great Britain, France are more then eager to supply arms, without any moral qualms. Even Germany, with its WWII past, sells its submarines. Only Japan is not allowed to do it. Time to rethink this abnormal situation. I hope this time J-government will not miss a good business chance.

Farmboy,

Totally agree. Among the magnificent ways to fix the economy we've heard from President Abe have been; Abenomics, Raising VAT, Casinos and Arms sales.

Without people to prop him up, this guy wouldn't last ten days in the real world.
