    There it is! All the protesting and Anti-nuke arguments aside. When the chips are down and Japan is threatened, the J-Gov explicitly asked the US in 1965 to use it's Nuclear arsenal while in Japan waters to defend Japan. No wonder its halfway down the page and not headlined. SO shame on the US for using Nuke on Japan, but let Japan get attacked and all bets are off! Nuke-em Sato said. Irradiate their innocent women and children. Destroy their cities. The real truth comes out! Its not ok for ANY REASON to drop Nukes on Japan. BUT its ok to Nuke, Japan's enemies......

    What a rather pointless revelation. In 1965 in the middle of the Cold War we would have used nukes against "Red China" in a heartbeat. Japan didn't have to ask and they probably couldmn't stop us even if they wanted to.

    Duh. Every non-Soviet Bloc nation in the world took that position from the end of WWII until the Nixon trip in 1971.

    Wrong! Russia and China's relationship was bad that time. Anyone who understands nuke weapon know that China's nuke use different element and different reaction/production procedure, people said nuke of this way is dirtier because of more gama rays something. anyway, we can always say ...developed with Einstein's help... However, China is the only nuke club member who declares " never be first usage of nuke in any conflict/war." Don't worry, men!

    Wrong. The relationship between the PRC and USSR deterorated in the late 1960s, ie 1968/69. In the early to mid 60's they were lips abd teeth having both supported Kim Il Sung in the 50s and Ho Chi Min in the 60s.

    It appears that yosun is right, and you are wrong. The Sino-Soviet split started in 1960, with the then Soviet Union withdrawing all of it's specialists that year, including nuclear specialists. This was 4 years before China detonated her first atomic device.

    Read the articles, you will see that the Sino-Soviet split started a decade before the date that you assert.

    Fact is: read todays JapanTimes online. There are 3-4 articles related to this topic, and definately worth reading.

    And for all the their machinations about being anti-nuke, Sato and LDP in the 1960's was all about preparing for war. Yet here the US gets beat up by the JMedia and some America-bashers for being War Mongers, when it would seem that just like any responsible government that needs to protect its people and plan for the worse, Japan made agreements to protect all our Japanese friends here posting irregardless of what they (JGov) were telling the world and preaching to their children in school.

    Sure the US was willing to take the heat and be the bad guy...... So my question is does anyone, any poster past, present or future care to debate the reason why the US Military is here, what its purpose is, and whether their presence was wanted or warranted given this recent revelation. I think not! I guess their hiding in their milk teas.....

    Good post, close to my own reasoning. Whatever policy a government might have & try to maintain, it would still be extremely irresponsible not to use whatever was possible to protect ones citizens. It is not hypocrisy, it’s planning for a worse case scenario while praying that it never comes to that.

Of the assistance provided, most significant to China's future strategic nuclear capability were an experimental nuclear reactor, facilities for processing uranium, a cyclotron, and some equipment for a gaseous diffusions plant."

    Uh, guys, OssanAmerica was right from the start. Just because the Soviets withdrew help while China was making its nukes does not erase the fact that the Soviets did help. And he did not make any claims as to the dates of Soviet help, merely that they helped.

    Its more like "Ex-PM Sato sought U.S. nuke tit-for-tat vs. China in 1965" or "PM sought U.S. nuclear retaliation agreement in 1965"
