Japan names ambassador to U.N.

TOKYO —

The Japanese government on Friday appointed Shigeki Sumi as ambassador to the Japanese permanent mission to the United Nations, the Foreign Ministry said.

Sumi, 55, was ambassador to the Permanent Mission of Japan to the International Organizations in Vienna and has served as minister at the Japanese Embassy in Thailand.

    I think Vienna refers to the IAEA, etc?

    IAEA is based/HQed in Vienna as are many other UN organisations. Google the UN-City in Vienna.

    Vienna is also the HQ for OPEC.
