I wonder if the MSDF is going to be deployed to protect whaling ships from the "vicious" Australians.

Geez... and only a few months after several other nations have basically done all the dirty work. Thanks, Japan!

    Hope the MSDF, not hijacked.

... and other countries will be ordering return of their ships as the mission is likely to be completed shortly. May be Japan was waiting for favorable weather conditions.

It seems to be a golden opportunity to work w/ the US, Europe and the PRC as well as other participants. Just to be in the area would be valuable experience for the MSDF to communicate, collaborate w/ numerous groups.

    ApecNetworks, agreed.

Japan is not irrelevant, at least not yet. This dispatch is a great sign that the Japanese will not take the path of being insular and withdrawn from the world community.

What "all the dirty work" has been done? The piracy is still ongoing and going strong and the entire area is still a problem to secure because of the vast area. When making comments for the sole purpose of criticizing Japan it would help if at least it were accurate or bore some semblance of reality.
