Japan, Philippines eye deeper defense ties

Wasn't this the whole point of the visit, hence His Majesty's (veiled) concern yesterday?

If China fears containment, they're sure doing a bang up job of ensuring that happens.

I am not sure about defense ties but business ties are likely to grow...that is to say Japan will buy mangoes and sell used marine boats.

Indeed! in addition to that, offshoring businesses to Philippines making westerners and Japanese out of jobs and making the Managing directors more richer ;-) ....

I feel happy that nowadays the relationship between Japan and The Philippines is stronger as ever. Considering the fact that 70 years ago this relationship was sucks, today the same relationship shows good points where both are united to help each other.

We want a free world. No barriers no races no conflicts. But we want money

Rhetoric aside, I'd much prefer to see some common sense and adherence to international law, rather than escalation of tensions.

So? what they really suppose to do?

Japan should play a leading role in bolstering its defense , economic commercial ties with all its neighbours to maintain peace and stability in the region.

You're right. If Beijing agreed with you this article wouldn't exist.

There is Idealism and there is practical Pragmatism, but there is always REALITY.

Reality is not history, not rhetoric, not action, and not future, but the present. Reality is not one part of the world but the entire world, the earth within our universe. Reality is how all that affects us. Reality is what are we (each of us) are going to do about making it better. Reality is that we do not agree as to what is better. Reality is we do not even agree to what each of us consider as good or bad, acceptable or unacceptable.

But most important is.., regardless what everyone thinks, says or does, I as an individual want myself and my family and heirs to survive and live on to what I consider as being good and better. That is life as we know it. The problem is I (and you) know that all living and non-living affect us and what ever we do affect them. And, the biggest problem is.., that today.., as in the past.., morals, ethics and laws are not the same, not applicable to all, not followed by all, not respected by all, and not all abides by them.

However, when one finds a need and that need can be fulfilled or at least alleviated by mutual agreement and joint effort, if that means the survival of myself and my family, and if it makes sense when looking at Reality through my own eyes, I must agree.

Within the past 100 years, friends became enemies and enemies friends with multiple transgressions and betrayals, all for dominance or survival. Those that dominated are now struggling for survival and those that were struggling for survival are now trying to dominate. But then, all living beings are doing the same. All living beings are competing for the same resources (throughout the Universe, not just Earth) for survival.

Idealism aside, what will YOU do to assure you and your family's survival? Not competition for power or wealth, but to survive?

Where do you think all the nations of the world are today?

We all need partners and friends to survive. Even getting married to have a spouse is a means for survival.
