The japanese public has strong anti-US military presents in Japan because the US navy ships shall never declare any nuclear arsenals onboard! By the way such measure was good to trace or ambushing US navy activities from Chinese or Russian navy's submarimes. Welcome!
Another bit of proof that Japan's politicians are a bunch of blithering idiots! I can't wait for the Chinese to pull a "freedom of navigation" drill with a few destroyers and subs through one of the narrow straits like Tsugaru!
If the limits were set as per the allowed 12nm, the whole straits will be Japanese territorial water... and all ships, with their right of transit passage, can pass through international straits. Which means any warship can go right up to the baseline. At least when set at 3nm, they have no excuse to infringe into the territorial waters, since they can always exercise transit passage outside of Japanese territorial waters.
It is quite an open secret, actually... wonder why it only came into the picture now?

So...Chinese subs can now cruise 4 miles off the Japanese coast at those straits without being in Japanese waters?

Should make for some interesting fishing opportunities for foreign boats. Way to prioritize, Taro!

Seems like another example of the old Yankee go home syndrome, until we feel threatened that is.............
