    This tiff is positively adolescent.

God damn, can someone get some dynamite and friggin blow the stupid pieces of rock to pieces? This whole dispute is really getting ridiculous. No, wait, correction there: it got utterly ridiculous a long while ago. Both countries are acting like these worthless rocks are made from platinum, studded with diamond and sitting on top of huge oil fields... Seriously, blowing them up would probably be the best thing to do...

An opportunity missed! Japan could have instead proposed making the islets an example of peace and friendship by sharing them equally with Korea (along with the fishing and mineral rights).

Correction Korea should have made the first move. The Korea nation is such an enlightened nation. Why I say they should of bent over first.

    Way to go Japan!!!!

Just give them to Uncle Sam, since Japan and Korea are too immature to sort out a solution themselves.

Ofcourse USA-NK alliance will rule the Korean Peninsula until Bush is in power.

I must concur with the rest here and say, HUH? A NK alliance is the last thing on ole Bushes mind right now. This statement is to say the least weak......

The islands are surrounded by rich fishing grounds and whoever owns the islands controls the right to fish. Both South Korea and Japan consume a lot of seafood, so it means a lot to both sides.

Because America is so good at managing foreign territory.

Then why don't they just build a joint venture fishing company?

Then why don't they just build a joint venture fishing company?

    That would be too easy.

Then why don't they just build a joint venture fishing company?

because that would require common sense, initiative, and creative thinking.. The Hat-trick Japan lacks.

It's not like the Koreas have proven themselves to have those qualities either.

Obviously the Japan government wants to steer public's firing line away from them. The safest card to play is nationalism (and maybe unity).

What are the reactions of the Japanese people if South Korea claims that "Tsima" belongs to a part of Korean territory and if it teaches in the Korean history book?

  • Seiharinokaze at 03:27 AM JST - 17th July

It will not make Japanese indignant or reconsider Takeshima issue in any serious sense but if anything it will only have them feel estranged from Korean temperament.

  • ecodrive at 02:16 AM JST - 21st July

Korea should and must claim the entire Japan the part of Korean territory in their textbooks and everything else for that matter. Japan's juvenile whining will only be a diservice to themselves in the end.
