Japan to offer additional yen loans to Tunisia

TOKYO —

Prime Minister Taro Aso on Thursday announced a plan for Japan to provide additional yen loans to Tunisia to improve the African country’s infrastructure, Foreign Ministry officials said. Aso conveyed the decision to visiting Tunisian Foreign Minister Abdelwaheb Abdallah. The additional yen loans will be used to make commuter trains run on electricity in Tunisia’s metropolitan area to alleviate traffic jams there, the officials said.

The prime minister also said Japan would like to further enhance its bilateral relationship with Tunisia through the Japan-Arab economic forum, which is slated to be held next year in Tunisia following its inaugural meeting in December in Tokyo, the ministry officials said.
