How can this be any good if the negotiations are secret and the people whom it affects directly are not even vaguely consulted? The fact that this is happening at all shows that "freedom" and "democracy" are just words, with no meaning to them whatsoever.

If only Japan was free to side with China, its economy could enjoy a good growth. But it can't, the pressure from the US on Japanese politics is huge, but many Americans deny it,

China offered Japan the post of the top-ranking vice president at the planned Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. Japan did not accept the offer, and instead toed the U.S. line, according to informed sources.

This would have been a huge possibility for peace between China and Japan, and it says a lot about the fact that China would accept reconciliation with Japan, despite the bitter past between the two countries, if only Japan was able to get closer to her. But Japan didn't accept this amazing possibility just because it can't. The US won't let Japan out from their sphere of egemony.

Amari said differences remained on some of the agricultural areas Japan wants to protect - rice, beef and pork, dairy, wheat and sugarcane - and some areas of the U.S. car and parts market.

LOl -- "some" of the areas Japan wants to protect: rice, beef and pork, dairy, wheat and sugarcane. What are they not trying to protect that actually grows in Japan? Hope you folks there are not expecting TPP to significantly lower your food costs. The Abe government seems determined to keep that from happening.

This trade deal is going to be good for everyone. China has already been allowed in the WTO, so it is hard for international trade to get more unfair.

Anyone sub-title the photo of Amari! For example: "Grr, here comes the troll!"

LOL, uh sure. Nobody knows why Japan is even in the TPP, least of all Japan

Bertie, you said it right. It does not matter what political ideology runs a country's government, in the end, all of them do it to the detriment of its citizens. As far as "democracy", which continuously puts itself on a pedestal, it hides behind a curtain of deception. Not that I think of any other system to be better, but this one in particular operates in a subtle way disguising itself as a benefactor of mankind. The "Money Masters"in You-Tube pretty much summarizes the whole thing. I highly recommend it for an awareness. The full documental is 3.5 hours long.

@mukashiyokattaAPR. 19, 2015 - 12:39AM JST Japan, just say NO!

They want to export Mich made cars to Japan so that Tokyo will have plenty of USA cars just like USA streets which have Japanese brand cars all over/ The top speaker said Japanese made cars in USA. He did not know Japanese brand cars in USA are not imported from Japan. Also he did not know in Japan, streets were narrow and cars are right side handled.

As long as USA representative to Japan push for auto sales in Japan, this talk will fail.

Rice situation. Calif is not actively pushing its short grain rice now. After reports that stated Japanese people live longer, Usa has Japanese food fads. So, Sushi and Japanese food restaurants are busy everywhere and CA rice are selling very well. Beside that, Aroma created push button new kind of rice cooker and selling well. So, now senators from long grain rice harvesting states are proposing their rice to export to Japan, US plan to export US products are not realistic.
