Japan is going to accept the original agreement to relocate Futenma to Camp Schwab, because that's the best thing to do other than just leave Futenma where the heck it is.

    Three words..."Yes we Can!"

Japan needs to go to the playbook of Roger Dawson in order to shake things up and persuade America that it is in its best interests to listen. How ? How 'bout that shoddy beef you trying to flog to us for the umpteenth time? There are always issues that can be used in a negotiation to negotiate with. Japan is still the second strongest economy and should act as so. All that is needed is a win-win resolution, which Japan should seek, being that its culture is more apt for that kind of positive result.

I think this is more like it

    "Yes we Can't!"

  • Okinawamike at 06:56 AM JST - 13th October

More like "Yes we can, someday, just not right now"!

Let's ditch US-Japan alliance... mendokusai... Make friends with China. We don't need that silly "peace by strength" strategy to avoid conflicts with our neighbors.

'Make friends with China.' - and become their next province.

Okinawa was not big difference with now and before 1972. a huge Us military presents was a nightmare for people there! Does Mr hatoyama has the guts to say : I want yankees out! If he was a responsible leader different with those LDP.....

  • societymike at 11:32 AM JST - 13th October

yes, there is a HUGE difference from pre-1972 and now. Over 75% of the bases and land that existed in the 70's is no longer being used by Military. Instead, they have compacted most all the military bases, facilities, and personnel onto 3 major locations in Okinawa. The few remaining are all being closed and given back but it ALL hinges on the Futenma relocation project. Once the go-ahead is given (which is was) the US side will start moving people and closing bases, but now it's all on pause again.....

dude u fail the only reason why japan is in this position hell even in an alliance with america is because it came damn near of becoming a province of america in a certain 1943 and if japan broke its alliance with us well then gl because no more american military support which means your screwed and never forget we are protecting u from a certain country called korea and china wont do sht to help if your invaded

  • alphawolf at 12:50 PM JST - 13th October

society mike.... I lived in Okinawa prior to and after reversion. There were over 70 military installations on Okinawa a reversion.. Camp Mercy, Camp Boone, Makiminato Hsg base, Naha Air Base on and on.. now there are 38 military installations, not to be confused with Major Military Bases like Kadena, Foster etc.. However them 38 installations take a Major part of Okianwas land mass... 20% of it and it needs reduced.. I hope it happens. aw

Blah, blah and more blah, the American bases are NOT in Japan to protect them from the sorry country of North Korea. China is not a threat to Japan and they are used by the Americans to justify their bases. North Korea does not have the military ability and China also is lacking in its invasion ability. Taiwan has stood against the mainland for 60 years now. Try and scare someone who does not know better. The Americans need to know the old plan will not work anymore having been rejected by the people of Okinawa.

  • DenDon at 12:36 AM JST - 14th October

having been rejected by the people of Okinawa

that's the thing, they haven't. a few voices of dissent does not make a majority

  • YuriOtani at 02:15 AM JST - 14th October

DenDon, it is a solid majority. I was just home for the last 4 weeks and you do not know what you are writing! The noise from MCAS Futenma is bothersome to the surrounding area. The US military likes to fly the pattern and just to make extra noise fly "down and dirty". The F18s are very noisy while the F15s are noisy as well. No DenDon a solid majority of the Okinawa people want a reduction of the American forces on Okinawa. The people of Okinawa have been punished enough. The arrogant Americans are still bothering the peaceful people of Okinawa with their condescending ways. If they only knew how many people understand them.

  • DenDon at 10:27 AM JST - 14th October

    no, it is not.
