If Japan interrupts this rocket and North Korea shows military aggression to Japan then I believe the Japanese should lift the 9th Amendment and give North Korea what they have been asking for...A good old fashion butt kicking.

  • roomtemperature at 12:13 PM JST - 3rd April

No flip flopping, gogogo. Japan NEVER had the intention to shoot it down. Only when something goes wrong and it, or parts of it, fall on Japanese soil. To protect it's people. NK is not pushing any Japanese buttons......that's only wishful thinking from your side.

What the press doesn't tell here is that NK already announced retaliation if Japan shoots down their missile.

  • mrsynik at 02:04 PM JST - 3rd April

"I don't know if DPRK reads JT, but if they do, they should keep the 6way talks relevant"

I'm sure the Korean Central News Agency monitors all the worlds media, including this site.

bandogeek, do you really think that Japan is in the shape with it's wanna be boy scouts to give anyone an ass kicking? Not to mention that China is just itchin for a chance to try their technology out on the US. and it would be the perfect chance to stand up for their underdog brethren. with the economy already on the ropes, lets throw a Chinese blockade in the mix. how much food/oil/rice/twinkies do you really think is on this little island? I would die without some aussie beef. who knows what NK would send this way if their back was against the wall. remember that Japan is downwind. I certainly would not like to be caught in the middle while I am here. Japan should spend more time making friends instead of making gross statements that need to be backed up by Obama.

Japan has to push on this issue w/ the UN, b/c every major DPRK rocket test will start to be a trajectory over Japan - it is a horrible precedent primarily due to the manufacturer of the rocket/flying projectile is diverting funds away from food/heating oil to fire these tests which puts into question the integrity of the rockets - these are not well funded and quality tested rockets. Who knows what they cannibalized to build these rockets?

  • ca1ic0cat at 09:07 PM JST - 3rd April

Japan is right to push the issue with the UN no matter how futile. It's the best start. It will put the Chinese in the position of having to support their lap dog or supporting stability in SE Asia. I wonder which they will choose.

It'll never happen. An attack on Japan draws the US into it. When the US attacks NKorea, China is then drawn into it. China will never permit NKorea to actually start a war.

bandogeek, do you really think that Japan is in the shape with it's >wanna be boy scouts to give anyone an ass kicking?

Actually, amd surprisingly, yes. Japan does have one of if not the best equipped conventional militaries in Asia.

Not to mention that China is just itchin for a chance to try their >technology out on the US. and it would be the perfect chance to stand up >for their underdog brethren.

China would never start a war wth the US, and most certainly not for their crazy beggar little brother. Theywon't even start one over Taiwan which means infinitely more to them than NKorea.

with the economy already on the ropes, lets throw a Chinese blockade in >the mix. how much food/oil/rice/twinkies do you really think is on this >little island? I would die without some aussie beef.

No Chinese "Blockade" of Japan, or even Taiwan for that matter can happen without China being able to eliminate the US 7th Fleet first. And they can't, period.

who knows what NK would send this way if their back was against the >wall. remember that Japan is downwind. I certainly would not like to be >caught in the middle while I am here.

NKorea has had their back against the wall for over 50 years and the only thing they are capable of sending are angry words and threats of destruction.

Japan should spend more time making friends instead of making gross >statements that need to be backed up by Obama.

Japan has a contitution that prohibits them from starting wars, while NKorea shoots missles over Japan in defiance of a 2006 UN Resolution, but you find fault with Japan?

[techall at 11:36 AM JST - 3rd April Wow, get the U.N. to talk about this, that'll scare them! The U.N. is irrelevant and impotent. Should be disbanded.]

Yeah I agree. What can you say about an organization of which one of the Permanent seats on the security council actually attacked and fought a war with the other members not on it's own soil but on it's neighbor's soil? Useless Nations.

  • TokyoVP at 04:46 PM JST - 4th April

    Japan at the UN Headquarters:

Japan Diplomat: North Korea has fired a missile! Japan demands the UN convene an emergency meeting of the Security Council at once!!!

Two hours later, after the UN Security Council convenes for Japan:

Japan Diplomat: Eeetooo....There actually wasn't a missile launch...the Japanese government was mistaken...

  • techall at 04:53 PM JST - 4th April

@bushlover: Happened more than once. The U.N. passes resolutions and the offending country just ignores it.

  • TheMarion at 12:24 PM JST - 5th April

Much ado about very little. A week from now, you'll be wondering why all the fuss. Take the dog out for a walk.......

  • sf2k at 07:29 AM JST - 7th April

just ignore North Korea. The only thing it can do is launch a rocked that dumps in to the ocean. A more fitting metaphor for a country cannot be had.

No NK is hopeless, the real challange is China. Deal with China and you can deal with North Korea. China supplies all it's oil and most of its food. Get China on your side then you have something. Until then, do something else more meaningful.

This is like a crying child that isn't hurt. You can't break the habit until you have the strenght to walk away/ignore it.

Bye bye North Korea, bye bye
