Wasnt Ishihara with them? Sounds like the kind of crazy, mindless thing that he would also do, wasting taxpayers` money flying around a few odd rocks in the middle of the ocean, claiming that they belong to Mother Japan. How sick and how stupid can these wackos get?

  • RepublicofTexas at 01:37 PM JST - 1st July

Why is it that whenever the Japanese asset their claims to land that is theirs, people get all angry and scarcely notice territorial disputes involving other countries.

  • meija at 03:30 PM JST - 1st July

I don't think anyone is getting "all angry" over the issue, just marvelling at the stupidity of it. Wasting taxpayers money to spend 3.5 hours flying round and round uninhabited islands, an action that achieves absolutely nothing.

I love the Chinese government employees, right when the central government orders it they roll over and then they bark! Too funny watching this game being played out.......

Funniest part of all the so called Japanese and his pack of Chinese loving lap dogs will sell Japan just for that bloody seat on the UN. Real sad bunch this ruling party and PM.......

Japan needs a PM with cohones again......Hope one comes out of the wood works soon so this worthless limp wimp Fukuda gets booted out.

China barks, Fukuda and the LDP jumps......Wholesale prices for Japanese territory just for a couple of votes in the UN......Real sad!

Anybody ever look at these islands on Google Maps? It's fascinating. They're labeled in Japanese but also in Simplified Chinese. You'd think that if the Chinese position is that the islands are part of Taiwan, then they would have traditional characters. So I asked a Chinese friend and got the following answer.

"THey are part of Taiwan and TAIWAN IS PART OF CHINA!"

    Ah ha.

Hopefully some day Okinawa will be an independent country and then the islands can be given to them.

Why? China uses simplified, ergo, it would be labeled in simplified. I don't see how that is confusing.

Terrikus, Taiwan uses traditional characters, so if the islands are part of Taiwan, they should be written as any other Taiwanese place name would. Not like a place on the mainland.

  • Terrikus at 12:03 AM JST - 2nd July

Actually, Taiwan names on China maps are also written in Simplified as well.

China should have provided a missile for them to sit on while they were up there.

"China should have provided a missile for them to sit on while they were up there."

Why? Are these islands worth going to wsar with the United States over?

  • OssanULTRA at 04:47 AM JST - 2nd July

If China and Taiwan really want to protest this they should send their politicians to look at these island for 4 1/2 hours. So there.

I like the way you think.
