I am liking Kan more and more. Dude should stick it out as long as he can. He has nothing to lose and the country has everything to gain by him staying.

DPJ should take disciplinary action against Okada for making such irresponsible statement.

some14some, why not? Your thinking is backward.

The Japanese gov. needs to show more transparency to the public and world audience.
Do you want to go back to old Japanese gov style that everything is all decided behind the door? This is a good thing. Be more open and stay positive, so we understand what is going on in public policy making process. .

Kan has done his best, he has tried to break the Old school type of Government. His Ideas, are practical - shrinking tax base, so up tax, and investigate options! Now a huge disaster, he has to be flexable. Jesus, I almost have a heart attack thinking about it. Kan bashers - who do you want?

so we understand what is going on in public policy making process. .

wish we could ever understand what is going on in Japan...even if we do understand 'perfectly' they will tell you...no, you didn't get the point, because you are a foreigner ! my point is let Kan continue...why press him so badly?!

Here we go again... the never ending revolving door. Koizumi- Abe- Fukuda- Aso- Hatoyama- Kan- ?

Is it a pipe dream to wish for a politician with enough Chutzpah to ignore the meaningless media muppets in Japan and start acting like a real leader?

some14some, I hope you understand who are behind pressuring him to quit?
They are Keidanren, Tepco, businesses and of course LDP. These people do not want a CHANGE as money is involved and he is too dangerous for some.

Or, Kan could serve out his term as DPJ president and therefore prime minister until the next Lower House election.

Japan Inc. Doesn't want a real leader, it needs somebody who can be manipulated by business interests and power hungry corrupt wanna-be leaders like Ozawa. Noda will do fine in that role for a year until he to is kicked aside for another.

I am unlike most. I won't apologise for it. I want anarchy. Rioting even. I want to see see the Japanese give a funk and fight for it. What has toeing the line ever done for the average folk? The few who vote have their vote trivialised and bought by the likes of Ozawa?

Japan needs fundamental change. How much 'heiwa boke' can people endure? I want heads to roll, governments to be held accountable. Japanese to know where the food on the table is from.

Some will say now is the time to gel and shut up. rubbish!! Now is the time for Japan to choose their destiny and live the life they deserve. Not the lie they have been led to believe is real.

Talk about pushing someone out the door! What's transparent about this government are the personal motives of these politicians.

So by this logic, if 1 1/2 policy goals are achieved, he'll take a long vacation, and if none are - well, we'll look for him on our currency. Really, the ineptitude of the opposition makes all this seem pleasurable.

Hijacking an airliner with a grenade was an extremely serious crime but hijacking the nation's leadership was classic.......Mr Kan you are every shameless politician 's statue! Oh..yes..there was nothing known as shame in Japanese politics!

Take note of the wording "could resign, if " No mention that he will.

I don't know why he is considered so subtle diplomatic - more like an idiosyncratic personality. Okuda just likes to stir the pot and butt heads with everyone.

Oh, sorry that is Absent Minded Me. lol. 岡田 not 奥田.

And knowing the Japanese, many people will probably believe what Katsuya Okada says. Kan is starting to look great as an actor. Hhahahaahhaahahha. Everything that he says is a total joke. But the best part about it is that there are still a lot of people in Japan who actually believes what Kan says. He (Kan) is making a fool out of almost everyone in government with a lot of people falling for his bull sh_t... Hahahhahaha...

Im with OsakaDaz on this one. How the Japanese as a nation can sit quietly by and let this continuing farce unfold is just beyond me. Maybe not rioting in the streets, but even a spark of interest in self and national preservation would be fabulous. Id lead it myself, but all I would get is "Ah, but youre not Japanese, you dont understand".

I believe that the successful implementation of these policies should indeed warrant his replacement, because punishing his success by removing him from office is in the best interest of the Japanese people.

it is very selfish of Mr Kan to hold onto his seat so long and deny some other old codger the fat pension and 24 hour security guard assigned to ex-PMs.

    As Homer Simpson would say

In case you cannot tell, I am being sarcastic
