Hahaha! This is just too funny...

Sure, because he doesn't want it moved to Kanagawa. Besides, who cares what he says, he has nothing to do with it..

    And?

These comments are also getting quoted in the Japanese-language press. Basically they are a defensive reaction from the governor who doesn't want to central government to come up with some "earth shattering" new alternative that sees more US service people stationed in Kanagawa Prefecture.

Anyway, as I have said on numerous occasions, this is still not a US-Japan problem. The only problem lies in Japan, with the newly elected government still grandstanding for votes rather than governing the country.

Umm ... since neither Nago nor Ginowan are in Kanagawa Prefecture, why is the governor of Kanagawa getting involved? Or is Kanagawa going to have its own foreign policy from now on? Who's running the ship of state?

Newsman.. because they they are thinking of moving the base out of the prefecture..and this governor might be afraid it could move to Kanagawa..aw

Thanks! But I still think it shows the learning curve that the Hatoyama government is going through. Better to get everyone on board with your decisions first, then announce them, rather than announcing them first and then finding out after who takes exception. Cart before the horse ...

Yah, let's pack them all into Atsugi. What the heck does the gov of Kanagawa really care about Okinawa? I really don't think they would come to Kanagawa. Too far north. Panic anyone?

Anywhere in Japan is a good location from where to deploy and protect US interes..uh I mean Japan.

You guys are missing the point. No chance Futenma would ever move to Atsugi.

Navy Jets at Atsugi are slated to move to Iwakuni in 2014 as part of this realignment. The governor realizes that if the Futenma move falls apart, this move will likely fall apart as well.
