You wouldn't think it possible that the electorate could be duped by the same trick over and over again, yet they are.
To summarise:
New LDP leader: LDP popularity = 70%.
Six months of LDP gaffes / scandals later: LDP popularity = 30%.
repeat ad infinitum.
I'm reminded of the theme song for MASH as it might yet serve as the swan song for the LDP if they get hammered this time around: "Suicide is Painless!"

Let's hope the Japanese people vote properly this time and kick the LDP out of politics for at least 10 years.
