Could have been personal problems not connected with his job.....maybe he stole some high school girl's panties and was about to be exposed.

These public secretaries are on 10 million a year! Sugiura looks like he will be turfed out by the LDP, they got their mileage out of him. Young and genki doesn't fit in with the LDP image of old and corrupt

Maybe he didn't fit in. Once he caught a wiff of all the foul corruption in the LDP he decided life was not worth living. No democracy. No hope. Maybe he was a purist. Maybe he realized that it would be impossible for him to make a difference.

a lot of these secretaries just collect a huge salary for doing nothing in particular(not rare in politics here) & are expected to kick back a large portion to their masters, been going on for decades, many many decades.

my guess is they were or are about to be caught, what a waste of my taxes

  • serindipity at 06:04 PM JST - 28th August

Yep, I smell a rat. There is more to this. He's had his finger in a pie for sure.

It would be nice if one of these dishonest chaps could face up to their responsibilities, admit their errors, and give an appropriate apology. After they did this they would be free to take whatever action they deem necessary. Topping themselves simply gives them a macabre way of fleeing. The most sickening thing is the tacit approval given to such actions. Ishihara even called one pollie a samurai after he hung himself last year.

JackDorff: sorry but what are you talking about? How do you know this linked to his work?

  • thepro at 07:46 PM JST - 28th August

Could have been attempted murder. Cops always just say suicide first off.

  • JackDorff at 08:12 PM JST - 28th August

franz75 - well, I`d doubt that it was girlfriend problems that sent him over the edge

Not even the LDP is that inept.

seems like most know how these go down accept franz......

a life wasted is always a waste, but in Jpn this kind of thing is way way to common an occurence, if i cud bet on this I wud put 95% on it being "work" more like politics & scam related, it almost always is................shouganai, star wars has the force in Jpn it is what I call, "the way"

sadly is an all too comon occurence

  • franz75 at 10:04 PM JST - 28th August

GW: I don't understand how you can assume this is his boss fault.

You are going to commit suicide because your boss is corrupted?

You are going to commit suicide because your boss doesn't like you?

Com'on! There are many more reasons to commit suicide.

I know it's tempting to speculate when there are some missing bits of info but, come on people, this article doesn't give any hint of what the reason for his death may be. We might need to hang on a bit more until more info turns up on this one...

  • OgieDoggie at 02:42 AM JST - 29th August

No suicide note has been found, police said

No suicide note...maybe he was going to tell on his boss and someone got to him first and made it look like a suicide (but didn't do a job right..hard to get good help these days).

Something just doesn't seem right about this as far as it being a suicide.

  • JohnBecker at 03:15 AM JST - 29th August

Wow... a lot of people seem to know just why the guy offed himself. Who needs the police when JT has a collection of clueless sleuths?
