Having spent half a decade throwing away taxpayers' money on dams, bridges, highways and tunnels in order to keep construction workers in jobs, it's a bit rich of the LDP to accuse anyone else of having socialist policies.

Wow. I missed this news.

"The government plans to make lesson fees for public high schools free of charge from April next year. It also plans to provide 120,000 yen a year to households with private high school students, and raise the amount of support to a maximum of 240,000 yen for low-income families." (from another news on japan site.)

Erm... if there's a need for them, what's wrong with the government discussing them?

And what's wrong with a few socialist policies where they can do good, anyway?

Socialisms wasnt bad in Japanese young generations vision, the worst thing was LDP dictatorships and puppet pro-US policy that ruined the country for 55years. by the way if Mr Hatoyama should terminate all the military alliances with US in order to curb the 'obstacle' that Japan has got to move forward as a respected nation in asia! Socialisms has no faults!

If the LDP was so sick with 'socialisms' they should apply a US citizenship and moves to america.Anyone of the 52 states of United States has no socialism but 10% plus jobless rate! Good for them.....

Really, it really is just TOO funny to see that the LDP is imitating the repubs in the US,who supported bush no matter what,and are also labeling the new government that gave THEM a shellacking at the polls (ha ha ha) as "socialist" when said LDPers, like many rightists, don't even know what socialism is.Well, I'm not going to explain it to them.They'll just have to learn the HARD way.Logic never was their strong suite.
