Yawn.

Good news that the JRP did poorly. Hopefully this trend will be continued at future elections, local and national.

As expected, the LDP romped handily. Not expected: a good showing by the Communist Party, which rose to the No. 3 spot in the Tokyo metropolitan assembly.

It appears that the decline in Minshuto and the bust of the Japan Restoration Party created a vacuum that was filled by Communist candidates, who slightly more than doubled their role in the city assembly. Can the Communists do as well in the nationwide upper house elections? If they do, this will send a shiver up the spine of the U.S. government ... which had to deal with the Communists following the end of WWII and in the early days of the Occupation years. Of course today's Communist Party is quite different from the one that existed following the war, but the word alone ... Communist ... creates uneasiness.

Although only 43.50% of the eligible voters went to the polls ... I'll bet 100% of the Soka Gakkai religious sect voted. And in those areas where they didn't field a candidate, they undoubtedly threw the support of the SG organization behind the LDP. So most probably Soka Gakkai was responsible for many of those LDP votes.

Although the LDP doesn't want the Soka Gakkai-backed Komeito Party influencing LDP thinking too much ... it will have to go along with Komeito's followers at least through one more election. Once the LDP reigns supreme, I wonder how much longer it will depend on Komeito as a supporter in running the national government.

"47% plan to vote for the LDP versus 7% for the Democrats"

This is humiliating for the Democrats. Hatoyama is the one who started the downward slide.

I am in disgust! Listened to some of the parties after the results - some celebrating some in grieve.

The common line between all was "we this, we that". Nobody said anything for the electorate, for the people they are supposed to work.

They are concentrated in themselves - that shows a lot! Don't care about the people - just for their result!

After the elections, will Abe mend fences with China?
