40 years on ,and the world is still sending financial aid , food and clothing to Africa, to those suffering through drought, famine or wars. Whatever happened to all the aid money that has been donated over those 40 years. Those forgotten and suffering in Africa deserve better. I wonder if those volunteer, doctors, nurses, etc who witness the suffering and devote their lives to helping those people think the same. It does seem that Africa is the forgotten continent and not really a part of the World today Todays society has become so selfish, the divide between those that have, and those that have not, has grown bigger. I think todays World leaders and all those elected to represent the people have lost the way.

Instead of sending aid, how about recognising Al-Shabab as the legitimate government of Somalia and it's people? Instead of the west creating and maintaining an unpopular, unelected and ineffective government, they could bring peace by backing al-Shabab. Trade could be opened up, piracy could be eliminated, and resourceful Somalis could prosper on their own, despite the effects of global warming on vast tracts of their territory. Al-Quieda, if they really exist, would have no popularity there if the country had real peace.

Japan would buy food from other countries and send them to Somalia. Japan is importing most of food from others.

Does Somalia support Japan on whaling or something in return? It's a nice sentiment to want to send food aid, but unless it's the radioactive stuff no one wants (which would be evil, of course), Japan needs its OWN food aid in the north. Other countries, much as they are suffering, should understand that.

It was squandered, wasted, syphoned off, diverted to corrupt officials pockets, used to finance more wars etc. about 1 cent in a dollar may make it to a food bowl if lucky.
What is needed is education and condoms to stop this dreadful cycle continuing over and over.

Maybe they can solve two problems here send all the contaminated food. That gets it out of Japan. And when the Somali's start getting sick that should take care of the pirate problem. Win Win for Japan

@Asagao. doing anything with Al Shabab other then blowing them up will only result in the terrorists getting bolder. it would become the next afganistan if it isn't all ready.
africa is always going to be a problem. the continent has an embarrassment in resources that haven't been tapped, and probably never will. the nations of africa are still too fractured with tribalism and the Islam/Christianity conflict. too few people with a sense of nationalism. people who recognize them selves as a member of a country first.

Sunhawlk, you talk as if the colonial gun-hoe joke that is democracy is superior to ages old cultures or community based societies. It must be great to be a member of the master race, with only 4trillion dollars debt.
